The New Imagenation PXR800 Analog Frame Grabber Offers Real-Time Control, Flexible Memory and Reduced Jitter, Noise

At $795, the PXR800 offers superior I/O control, two programmable DMA modes, 50% less jitter and noise than more expensive boards.

Beaverton, Ore., June 5, 2001 - CyberOptics Corp. (Nasdaq: CYBE), today announced the release of the Imagenation PXR800 frame grabber for standard analog, precision monochrome machine vision applications.

A single channel, precision monochrome, PCI format frame grabber, the Imagenation PXR800 is particularly suited to applications within highly automated manufacturing and inspection processes where there is a need for image precision and real-time accuracy.

The Imagenation PXR800 works with up to four multiplexed cameras (third and fourth camera capability can be exercised using a separate extender board) and supports RS170, CCIR, progressive scan and resettable cameras on the same board, at up to 14.75 megahertz (MHz). The frame grabber offers superior input/output (I/O), with separate exposure and strobe controls that allow users to set image exposure separate from lighting controls, giving customers valuable control over the environment, external events and ambient light in order to get the optimal image capture. The four separate triggers, which can be used as multiple triggers on a single camera, or individually on up to four cameras, also allows users to monitor different events in different locations along the process and switch between them automatically.

The addition of eight General Purpose I/O (4GPI, 4GPO) lines allows the frame grabber to control other elements in the manufacturing process, offering more application flexibility.

Imagenation PXR800's unique combination of first-in, first-out (FIFO) dual-mode direct memory access (DMA)—both burst and incremental—with 8MB of onboard memory, ensures the grab of the entire image desired. Burst DMA allows the entire images to be transferred in about 4 milliseconds, but the availability of incremental DMA means that users who want the flexibility to access to the video data as it is first available, can have it. The Imagenation PXR800 supports all standard analog cameras.

"This is a premium standard analog product that will be very competitive with comparable products because our real-time control features significantly improve grab accuracy, guaranteeing the grab of the image desired" said George Fabel, Imagenation president. "With the I/O control, two DMA modes to chose from and extremely low jitter and noise, the Imagenation PXR800 offers users greater confidence in the data in order to develop increasingly accurate applications."

More precise image digitization is made possible by the Imagenation PXR800's low pixel jitter and noise levels, which at +/-2.6 nanoseconds (ns) is much lower than comparable frame grabbers at +/-5 ns. Noise levels are <0.5 of LSB of digitizing inaccuracy. The improved image allows for greater accuracy in interpretation, which is particularly important in medical or other high-precision applications.

Factory/manufacturing automation designers will appreciate the Imagenation PXR800's ImageInfo, an Imagenation feature that allows users to "stamp" images with time and environment status information. ImageInfo enables users to develop more sophisticated applications by incorporating the captured data, without the need to build an external device to grab the same information, saving development time.

Priced at $795 per board, with attractive discounts for volume orders available, and backed by service and support throughout the development/implementation process, the Imagenation PXR800 offers a better price for performance than comparable frame grabbers.

The Imagenation PXR800 includes a variety of sample applications that allow new users to quickly grab and display images in real-time, use multiple camera or boards, handle the LUT, control offset and gain, and set a region of interest writing a single line of code. Additional information, technical assistance, current software and examples are all available at the Technical Support page of Imagenation's web site at www.imagenation.com.

PXR800 Key Features: Pricing and Availability

The PXR800 is available now, for $795 (Base list price) per single unit, almost 40 percent less than comparable boards. Attractive discounts available for volume orders.
